Description.

Melt is a short RnD project I made to test the melting capabilities of animated objects with the flip solver in Houdini. 

I modeled and animated the mask in Blender and then brought it to Houdini for the simulation.

The difficult part for this was to figure out the best and most reliable way. My first approach included using temperature attributes und different viscosity values and then point deforming the geometry itself. Although I came quite far with this, the end result never looked the way I wanted and the point deforming stage always had some minor issues. That’s why I gave it another thought and came up with a much simpler solution. I essentially split up the animation and simulation part. The animation of the mask was slowly removed by a Boolean operation and I used the intersection to spawn particles for the fluid simulation. This gave my much more control about the transition and the look.
